Moonraking
40th Birthday edition!

Moonraking is 40 this year!

Join the illuminated parade on Saturday 22nd February from 5.30 – 8.30pm starting from Carr Lane.

Join in with Slawit’s magical candlelit community lantern celebration inspired by the Moonraking legend of smugglers, the canal and the moon.

Join  the lantern-making workshops over half term week from Saturday 15th – Thursday 20th February.  All materials and plenty of inspiration provided.

This year’s lantern theme will be Slawit SHOP!  As 2025 also marks the centenary of the central shops on Carr Lane.  The lantern parade, inspired by these shops, will kick off a year of research and creative projects looking at memories of 100 years of shops and shopping locally in partnership with The Watershed, Green Valley Grocers and The National Lottery Heritage Fund,

This year the Moonraking re-enactment will be moved up on to Carr Lane (not on the canal as in previous years) in celebration of SHOP! Watch out for a new performance space on the closed road and the circular procession will go along the canal and uphill onto Bank Gate for spectacular views over the village.
