2024 Slaithwaite Moonshine Festival of Light
The next Moonraking Festival will be in February 2025. The odd festival in the odd year. Meanwhile, we are looking forward to…. Moonshine 2024
We are inviting residents and businesses to take their own lead and either reuse a window lantern you may have used before or create your own new illuminated picture windows that tells a story. These will make up a window picture trail across the village and valley for locals and visitors to enjoy on the 16th and 17th of February 2024.
A unique fundraising scheme asking for a penny in every pound spent in the village, to enable the Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival to take place every two years….it is the odd festival in the odd year! Do you need to pay your Lunar ‘tax’ ?!
We were thrilled to stage another Moonraking Lantern Festival in March 2023, our first since 2017! Local people of all ages, schools, community groups, artists, musicians and performers came together to make set piece lanterns, street theatre, window lanterns, musical soundscapes and processional beats for the Finale.
Pre festival activities started in December running up to the Festival week 11th-18th February when the community made 300 processional lanterns that lit up the streets of Slaithwaite on Saturday 18th February as we raked the Moon from the canal once more.
We are so grateful to all those that have contributed financially big and small to enable the Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival to return in 2023 and we would like to say a BIG thank you all who go above and beyond with their time and expertise to support the Festival
