Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival 2015:
A week of Lanterns, Legends and Landmarks

In 3. Previous Festivals by Mr Moon

The Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival 2015 is back for a ‘landmark’ event in its history, from 15 – 21st February 2015.

Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival 2015 will run from Sunday 15th February 2015 to the evening of Saturday 21st February 2015 for the Finale and is packed with our usual feast of activity.

It is now 30 years since the first lanterns were made and paraded around the streets of Slaithwaite by a hardened few braving the winter’s icy weather. This popular local festival, held biannually, celebrates the beautiful Pennine Community of Slaithwaite. A week of lantern making, music, story telling, arts and crafts culminates in a unique finale event re enacting the legend of moonraking from the eighteenth century, and then its all back to the Leisure Centre for a Ceilidh.

Lantern making workshops take place all week starting on Sunday 15th February at 9.30am when everyone will have the opportunity to make a lantern to carry in the procession and make their (land)mark.
